As per IS: 2745-1983, 2952-1984 & 9162-1980 for helmet on a shall consist of a rotating turntable on which the head form can be mounted for placing the helmet under test on, a burner mounted on a sway-able stand such that it can made vertical for setting of flame height and horizontal or inclined to enable the flame to strike the helmet right angle or at the an inclination of 45 to it's outer surface, and an arrangement to move the burner in a horizontal direction to change it distance from the outer surface of the helmet manually during the duration of the test The turntable shall move at the specified speed with the help of a monitor gear set. The head form on which the helmet shall be place during the test is mounted on it with the help of a pin located in the hole passing through the head form. Its height shall be adjusted to enable the flame to impinge on the helmet at the specified distance below its crown The burner shall be made of brass. It shall be supplied with two inlets, one for supplying LPG gas and other for supplying dried compressed air. The flow of gas and compressed air shall be controlled with the help of these needles value to give a proper frame. The adjustment shall be carried out with built in pressure of burner The burner shall be mounted on a suitable stand. It shall be possible to make it vertical for setting of the flame height. Rigidity Tester

The rigidity tester (IS: 4151-1993 & 9562-1980) for helmet testing shall consist of two solid steel plates held parallel to each other with help of four spacer rods. A loading plate with a guide rod shall guided along with a vertical axis in a brass bush held in the upper plate. The weight of the loading plate assemble is equal to initial load. Major load shall be applied in specified steps by placing disc shaped dead weights on the top of loading plate assemble. The deflection of the helmet shall be measured with the help of a scale fixed to the frame and a pointer fixed to the loading plate assemble. The equipment shall be designed for simplicity in use. It finished in grey hammer tone staving painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion registrant finish.

Penetration Tester

The protective helmet shall be placed with an initial load of 10N, on a headform oriented in such a way that the plane tangential to the shell at the point selected for the test is substantially horizontal. A metal punch with a conical head rounded at the top shall be placed vertically to touch the shell at the point selected and held in position by a ring. A metal drop hammer (3±0.01kg) shall fall on the top of the punch. The head of the punch shall not come closer than 5mm measured vertically to the head form.

Audibility Test

Audibility test apparatus IS: 4151-1993 for helmet consists of a rigid angle iron frame to keep a test head forms with the helmet under test mounted over it one end and a horn placed at the other end. The horn shall be held such that sound waves from it mistake the helmet as it s backs in the same horizontal plane. Both the horn a and the head form shall be mounted at a a level 1.2m above the ground. The horn shall be operated by a lead acid storage battery supplied with the a apparatus. A microphone and a digital sound level meter shall be provided for measuring the sound level. The microphone shall be mounted inside the wooden head form at the nominal bar level of the user. The microphone shall be mounted in each head forms, one on the left and other on the right. The selection between left and right microphone shall be done with the help of a change over switch. The apparatus shall be finished in grey hammer tone staving painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion registrant finish.
